What should I do?

My boyfriend and i have been dating since highschool and we have been great! Some drama and such with family but other than that everything has been fine. Its been a year since he graduated high school and while he doesnt have a car or anything, he hasnt expressed want in getting a job. I have a full time job and im currently trying to go back to school,but he just compliments and supports me. I want to do that for him to and when i brought up the job to him he brushed it off, several times after brushing it off he just told me i could either wait for him to get his act together or leave him. Weve been through everything together and i didnt want this to be the end of us. What should i do?

That was a very comfortable and bold thing for him to say! He is way too comfortable and sounds nonchalant. Don't put your life on hold or take care of a man.

Personally, I would want someone who has the ambition to go out and achieve their goals, without having to be talked to. That sounds more like parenting than a relationship. But to each their own 🤷🏼‍♀️

Does he have any goals or a set date of when he wants to find a job or go to school? It’s hard for me to answer this poll because I don’t know him. I don’t necessarily think right out of high school he needs to immediately get a job if he has no responsibility. I didn’t, I spent a good year out of high school traveling and having fun but luckily I was able to do this without being pressured by parents or anyone else.  I’m happy I did because now my life is work and responsibilities so I’m glad I took a little time to be young and free. But if you think he will become a lazy irresponsible person and doesn’t care to work and help provide a good life for himself and you then that is a problem. I would have a talk with him about what his goals are and what he wants to do for work.

That stage/age (20’s) is such an amazing and crucial time to figure yourself out. I was in a similar situation with my high school sweetheart. I noticed he was in a rut after high school with no ambition and I was off perusing my goals and was in college. Against my selfish desire I thought it was best to break up with him because he needed to learn on his own what his life path would be, no one else could teach him that. We were great together but he just wanted to follow me around with no goals and follow my path instead of creating his own. After we broke up he ended up figuring it out a couple years later. It took him to be on his own. Now years later, he is very successful. We aren’t together but I think if we had stayed together he would have just followed me around instead of finding himself. 
Follow your gut instinct. If you think he might do better on his own for a while so he could focus on himself it might be worth moving on. He also could hold you back and distract you from focusing on your goals. You two could always come together again in the future and rekindle your relationship.
