Protected?

I went to my doctor Feb 13 during my break week from my previous pill (Aviane). She suggested a new brand (norgestimate and ethinyl estradiol) and I started that day. I had my period that day so I asked how to stop my period and she advised to take 2 pills each day till period stops so I took 2 pills/day for the first 3 days of the new pack. I followed the whole pack and took the placebo week. Long story short, I took all 21 active pills in an 18 day span. I took break week after all active pills and got my period. Started new pack after 7 inactive pills and had sex without a condom.

Am I protected or was I supposed to shorten my break week?
