When you are asked if you will donate to an organization through a restaurant or store, do you donate? (follow up questions below)

Saw this convo on reddit and thought it would be interesting to discuss. I know it’s not highly controversial but I think there’s still some potentially controversial aspects of this topic.

Pls answer any of the below follow up questions if you have time (not all as that’s too many obviously unless you’re bored, just trying to get ideas flowing here)

You pull up to a fast food restaurant and are asked if you will add $1 to your order to donate to an organization.

Do you add the $1 or no?

Why or why not?

Would you rather donate your dollar to the organization directly?

Do you trust the restaurant/store to deliver the profits?

Does the location or type of the organization make a difference (a local org vs one in a further away area, one you personally feel attached to vs one you don’t feel personally toward, etc)

Do you judge people who don’t donate?

Do you feel as though you have ever been judged by a cashier or customers around you for not donating?

Do you feel that you need to explain to the cashier why you don’t donate? (Many people say “oh sorry I would if I had money/this is all I have sorry” or something like that)

Are there any organizations that you refuse to donate to under any circumstances? (Susan g komen for example)

Are you more likely to donate if the place matches your donation, or does that not matter?

Does them asking you not bother you at all and you feel 100% unfazed saying no and you don’t care? Etc.

Pls free to share any thoughts/opinions you may have on this topic.
