Nail salon: what do I ask for? (TMI ratchet nails)

So I never get my nails done because I’m a pastry chef and I work with my hands. All the polish would come off in the midst of making all the desserts anyways. Well I have a big event to go to and need these ratchet ass nails done! I clip them very short because nails are not practical in my line of work. I don’t care for them at all except wash my hands a hundred times a day. I want some mid length oval shaped nails with some designs and sparkles and all that good shit. 
PS. I know my nails are horrible. You don’t have to comment on that! lol. Plus, I’m like really cool. I’d hate for you to feel bad about that 😉

yea, tell them how you want them and ask for gel polish it last longer and looks better. don't be afraid to tell them to fix something or if something doesn't look or feel right to you! also i'd probably ask girls you know if they have anyone or place they would recommend! (: pls post when you get them done lol

As a former chef I can say anything other than hard acrylics wont last very long and can risk getting into foods. 
Gel can be sensitive to steam, as can dip nails. And other polishes will just chip off like you said.
If you want color, ask for pigmented acrylics and go for a shorter almond or rounded shape. Those shapes are stronger and less likely to break. The corners of squared nails can chip in a kitchen environment. 
If you can avoid having dried out hands as much as possible because all that hand washing can lead to dry hands which can lead to lifting, even more so if your hands are in bleach sanitizer. Wear gloves if you can and lotion or oil up after washing.

Just tell them you want short rounded acrylics if that is what you want, you can pick out your color from their selection. They let you decide how long they are. I like to look at cute designs on pinterest before I go. I rarely go as well.

Depends on how extravagant you want nails annnnd not all places can do all designs or the best at following directions so be prepare to not have it exactly like you imagine...them again, maybe they'll come out better than you expected...lol. I would show them pixs of what you want/like/expect... get recommendation about where to go and how much to expect to spend because some places will upscale the shit out of you especially "fresh meat".
