Hubs to MIL: Had a baby shower at (my) work today.
MIL: Great! Did you get lots of stuff?
Hubs: Filled up (my) car.
MIL: Awesome! Hopefully it will all fit in your apt!

Why wouldnt it fit?! You think the free space in our apartment is smaller than the space in my car? Lol The shade of it all!!!!

Apartments are small- with all the stuff you already have in your apartment plus all new baby stuff, things can get tight. I wouldn’t take it literally though. Of course if it fits in your car it’ll fit in your apartment

Yes everything fits folded and stacked in your car, doesn't mean it will fit in your apartment once opened/ unfolded/ put together. Baby things take up a LOT of space and your obviously not going to have everything just stacked up in a corner....are you?
