Didn’t even know I was in labor!

Me

On March 31st I was 38+6 weeks and I lost a tiny bit of my mucus plug which is something I’ve been doing the past week or so and didn’t think anything of it, this time there was the smallest speck of blood in there so I assumed I was going to get a bloody show soon but I didn’t have any more bleeding that night. I told my boyfriend and his mother about it and of course they freaked out and wanted to take me to the hospital right away lol.

That whole night I had some contractions but I really just thought they were Braxton Hicks. Around 7 am on April 1st my boyfriend says let’s go to the hospital because he’s impatient and wanted me to have the baby right then but I knew I wasn’t in labor. His mom came in the room about 5 minutes after he said that and she kept begging to take me to the hospital but I felt completely fine. Like I honestly had worse contractions throughout my pregnancy than I was having that night but I gave in and said let’s go knowing that they would send me home.

When we got to labor and delivery they checked my cervix and I was a loose 3. They said they would check me again in an hour and when they came back I was at a 6😳. When the doctor came in and told me I started bawling because I did not expect that at all. I was hardly in any pain and my doctor always told me that if I could talk through contractions then I wasn’t in labor. Well that wasn’t the case for me because by the time I got into a room and got my epidural I was at a 9 and literally laughing through my contractions. my doctor came in and told me to sit up to get him lower. Not even 30 seconds after I sat up she said “okay woah, his head is crowning”. After a brief moment of panic I started pushing and he was out in only 3 pushes and I didn’t feel a thing. I didn’t have any tears just some “road rash”.

I’m 18 years old and this was my first baby. My experience with giving birth was so wonderful. Better than I could ever imagine. Becoming a mother has completely changed my life. I feel like a whole new better version of myself. I love my little boy so much and I’m so thankful for him!
