Empty uterus but still pregnant possible?

Today we went for our first scan (7 weeks and 5 days) and the Ob told us that the uterus was empty. I am bleeding for almost 3 weeks now (and still counting) but my HcG level is high. Now we have to go to the GYN in about 3 days,.. to figure out what is happening,... she told us that it is not a HealthY pregnancy and could result in two options:

1. Miscarriage

2. Ectopic ovum

Is there anybody who experienced the same with a success story?!
