Guinea Pig Owners??

Question

I recently got 2 guinea pigs and I know a fair amount about them actually lol But I was just wondering if anyone else has some and has any tips for babies, or adults in general. I can’t get them to eat any veggies or fruits yet (I’m not gonna forced them) but I think it’s because the pet store I got them from is just... not a good pet store period. 😒 
Any ways I can encourage them to eat some more? I’m worried about them ☹️ And other than iceberg lettuce is there any kind of lettuce they can’t have?? 
Also, lol, my one is not terrified of me, like she purs when I hold her and I spend a lot of time w them both but she does run from me even though I try to gently pick her up. Will this change? Is there a way to not make her skittish?

Bugsy died 3-4 years ago. Just wanted to share this great photo of him. Guinea pigs make pretty good pets, but they pee and poop a lot, but awesome when they purr.

I work in a rescue centre, guinea pigs are wonderful animals, they are in actual fact prey animals, so have a fight or flight instinct, they will flight and run away when you approach them as they see it as danger like they would do in the wild, they will only use their fight instinct when getting their own prey. This is just something guineas naturally do, but when they are eventually in your arms, they wouldn’t want to move☺️, they may eventually get closer and stop running away but it’s not unusual for them not to. 
Keep monitoring the fruit and veg intake, because guineas love it! Try giving them some apple or carrot in small amounts, as treats as they love ittt! ❤️

Idk if you know this already but NEVER feed them potato’s. they are super allergic to them.

My sister had 2 and all of this is normal. They will warm up to you but will run away if you try and grab them sometimes. She had hers for years and they still ran and hid when she came up without food. When she refilled their hay and veggies and pellets they would squeal and get happy and run out of their homes and greet her. But other than that they were skiddish. She fed them carrots and lettuce and they loved that. She gave them the baby carrots. Just make sure they have tons of water and hay. I don’t think you have to limit the amount of hay if I remember correctly. It should always be available to them. Also she gave them vitamin c drops too because their immune systems are very weak.
