OBGYNS- how to get them to take you seriously?

Hey ladies! What are your tips/tricks on getting your OBGYN to take your symptoms seriously? I’ve been itching immensely and she just says to moisturize.🙄 like i haven’t already tried that! How can i get her to listen to me and take me seriously?

The fact that she isn't taking the itching seriously is a red flag in itself. I'd look into other OBGYNS. You shouldn't have to convince them of YOUR symptoms in the first place. They should be ordering bloodwork or sending you to a dermatologist minimum.

Change doctors. That's the only thing you can do. For your itching, I suggest you start eliminating things from your diet- high phosphorus and oxalate foods may cause extreme itching if your liver is unable to process them. Foods such as beans, nuts, green leafy vegetables, sweet potatoes, organ meat,  sodas, chocolate and even cheeses. There is also a serious liver condition that may develop mainly in the 3rd trimester but at any time for some women-the itching is mostly in your hands, feet and back area. Let your doctor know if that's where you have the itching. Avoid hot showers, try baths or lotions with oatmeal. I hope you feel better.

I had the exact same thing happen to me... he said to use lotion. I said could this cholestasis, can a test be done to confirm. I use cleansing oil in the shower, then i oil my skin then i lotion.... *shakes head*  I wasn't leaving till he did the blood work. Waiting on results now.  I would just let him know that your not comfortable and you wouldn't want anything to cause harm to the baby so would he please do the test. Cost him nothing anyway....

Keep calling and say I've put extra moisturizer like you suggested, but the problem is persisting. Drs typically try the simplest resolution before doing anything more. But once you've made it clear that you took their advice but it didn't help, they tend to make more suggestions or tests.
