Mommas, it's okay to set boundaries
I saw a post recently on Pinterest. This new mom to be made a list of hospital rules for her visitors and she received some hate. I'm here to tell you that it's okay to set your boundaries. Do not let anyone make you feel as if you're being unreasonable. That is YOUR moment and you deserve to spend it however makes you the most comfortable. If you don't want somebody there, you don't have to have them there. If you don't want visitors at all, that's your choice. Your concentration should be your new baby, not sugar coating peoples feelings. Because it isn't about them, it's about you. I used to feel bad about setting my boundaries because I was made to feel bad about them. I had to cater to other people's feelings before my own and I finally realized that, no, I actually don't. My last birth was full of drama because of my s.o's mother, who did not want to follow my birth plan. Which was simple. I have the baby and I call every one else when I am ready for visitor's. She was being extremely difficult and called countless times while I was in labor and even had her boyfriend threaten to call the hospital and find out what room I was in because I was "refusing" to let her see the baby. I wasn't refusing anyone anything. So this second time around, I have spoken to my s.o and have advised him not to announce when I'm in labor or at the hospital. He will call his family when and after I give birth, and they will visit the next day. He agreed and that is what we decided to do. It may seem mean, but it's what has to be done sometimes when people make it difficult. This woman is extremely toxic and I refuse to allow my son around her very much. So if you feel someone is toxic and simply sucks any and all joy from an experience for you, you have every right to cut them out. So to all new, expecting mommas, it's OKAY. You do what's best for YOU.
I don't know who needed to hear this, but if you did, you're not alone and you're not a bad person.
Much love from one momma to the next ❤
