An entirely accurate and fair representation of a student's knowledge on a topic? Not typically.

Nope. Not everybody is confined to one category where you grade their performance. What I mean is not everyone can express their knowledge effectively through tests where most grades are based from. Unless their taking into account various methods of the students showing their knowledge on the material, then grades aren’t effective

Depends on the grading scale. I’ve been to schools that use the ten point scale for grades, I’ve been to school that use a 6 point scale...let me tell ya ain’t nothing makes you feel like your a horrible student like getting an 81% on a state exam and your school registers it as a D which is basically failing...

This is too broad. Which schools? What grading system? We are transitioning from what is considered a traditional system of percentage points to a standards based proficiency system. 
Academic reporting needs to report the academic abilities of a student. Not the behaviors. Students should not be punished for practice. 
I studied this topic quite extensively in grad school and have served on my district’s assessment committees and trained other staff. It’s a big topic and an essential one that should be happening in more schools.

For a lot of students, yes. But we are seeing a ton of “grade inflation”. I teach high school and we see it all the time.
How do we know that a student getting all As at our school is the same caliber of student getting the same grades at neighboring school? 
Why was there a kid who got As.... and top 5% of his class, and can’t break a 1000 on his SATs? 
Grading is complicated in high school. It needs to be there, because colleges require statistics but it needs to be streaMlined and that’s that hard part.

I say yes, to a certain extent. Grades typically aren't given subjectively; there are specific criterion that need to be met to receive certain grades. Yes, there are some teachers in some classes that'll grade on "how good" a paper is or something, but math is math. You're either right or you're wrong. Same with science, history, chemistry, anatomy, etc.

Grade was created recently. It was to making grading quicker. The old way use to be where the teach wrote a grade like about a paragraph about the student. About if they were struggling or not paying attention. Sure grading is fine on test. However, giving point for work. Instead it decreases learning. Kids memorize to get a good grade instead of learning and understand the material. This use to have parents and the student understand more what was happening and how to improve. Grading instead makes kids feel like a failure because of a B or a C or even an F. Kids don’t want to fail. They want to succeed. However schools cause kids to feel worthless Bc of our grading system. I am very for replacing it was a written grading system instead. Kid was to learn. They really do. But we stress them out so much that it’s no longer learning. Using grades as “their job” is stupid Bc they are children and this is their time to enjoy life without a job. Kids who get to have a childhood end up being happier and more productive in their careers.
