Opinions on Owlet baby monitor?

I am extremely paranoid about my baby dying in the middle of the night, he will be sleeping in my room, but in his crib. My aunt passed away from sids when she was a baby so that makes me even more scared. I’m trying to do research would you recommend the Owlet or a different sock/foot monitor?
Edit: I know it doesn’t prevent sids, but I can catch something abnormal I am going to do everything I can to take the best care of him.

I was the same way so I did things I knew would help prevent SIDS and have faith from there that the rest was out of my hands but I was doing everything as a mother I possibly could, things that help prevent sids like a pacifier, it helps with them constantly sucking it and making them remember to breath also having them on a flat surface with plenty of air flow around them, also keeping a fan on in your room to help circulate air flow, also keeping them in your bedroom instead of there own room till there 6 months of age :) hope this helps give you a peace of mind knowing your doing everything to prevent it, I know it helped me!

I just want to throw it out there that my youngest used a pulse ox 24/7 due to desats and being on low flow oxygen. Some parents need reassurance that their babies are breathing for many different reasons and that is okay. My reasons may be different than yours but I know one baby that was saved because of her owlet and that is enough for me.

I absolutely love ours. The other posters are correct in that it can’t prevent anything from happening but you know what, I like that there’s a chance it could AND I’d rather know something happened than find out eight hours later. I used mine with my older daughter with no issues and then used it again with my new baby, from the start I noticed he sometimes had weird readings. One night after a particularly bad bedtime of crying his heart rate kept dropping almost low enough for an alarm, I checked his pulse manually and it was matching but then went back to normal. Long story short after it happened again I brought it up with our pediatrician and she had an ecg ordered, we were sent to a cardiologist a week later and he was diagnosed with a heart condition. There were some red flags aside from the owlet readings but it confirmed some of my suspicions. Anyways, I say to each their own. Is it necessary? No but if it’s something you want go for it. I love technology and trying out new things this and I think it’s an awesome device.

Owlet doesn’t prevent sids, there is no known cause or reason why sids occur. Our sons three pediatricians and his pediatric cardiologist advised against it. It will not alert you that something is going to happen, only that it already has happened. It can malfunction, set off alarms that shouldn’t be going off, it’ll give you more stress waiting for it to go off. It’s not accurate, it’s not even tested or regulated as a heart monitor... it gets away with not being tested by saying it only tells if there is a heart beat, such yes there’s a heart beat or no there is not a heart beat. It’s not worth it and plus there are video monitors that do the same thing for a fraction of the cost.

If you have baby in a safe sleep space by following the ABCs 
alone -nothing but fitted sheet-pacifier
Back- on their back 
Crib- alone in their crib/bassinet/play yard 
Your chances of sids is reduced to 1 in 400k 
If you wanted to use an Owlet on top of that, it is fine but just know they are not the same as a hospital monitor and can give false readings (both good and bad). 
I know many moms that use them to ease anxiety—but you cannot rely on them to let your baby into an unsafe situation (like sleeping in a rock and play or something like that)

I have the owlet. I think I’ve used it three or four times. My baby would always fall asleep before I got the sock on and there was no way I was going to wake him up to put it on. Also I got false alarms half the time that would scare me to death.

I have it, love it,  gives me piece of mind 🙂 alout of people say it’s not worth it because of the price. But honestly if you can afford it, why not?

We don’t have the owlet but we have an angel care monitor that has a sensor pad that goes under the mattress. It will alert us if there’s no breathing or movement for 20 seconds

I have it, i use it every single night. I need it on. It gives me piece of mind and worth every penny. Will be buying another one for baby #2 whenever we decide to try again. The best thing I’ve purchased honestly!
