Changing bottle nipple flow?

I just ordered new slow-flow nipples for my bottles (after 2+ months I could tell the original set was worn out) and it had me wondering - how do you know when it's time to move up to medium flow nipples?

I had some suspicion when my LO was taking a long time to finish a bottle and then got bored. Sure enough that’s a sign to look for. He was right at the 3 month mark which is also milestone to consider moving up in size.

I moved up to size 2 when she was about 2 months old, as I could hear her sucking hard and then getting annoyed it wasn’t coming out quick enough! The teat will also “cave in” when they suck hard enough
