Should we announce today? Please read.

Question

My husbands cousins wife gave birth early this morning. My mother-in-law texted us the news. We are so happy for the newest addition to the family, but my hubby and I had also put together our Easter-themed social media announcement. We are 13.5 weeks. Our parents and siblings know but it would be news to the aunts, uncles, cousins, and everyone else. Do we hold off on announcing so that they can have their day? Or do we go for it anyways. I don’t want to overshadow the birth, but we’d also have to redo the photos we took. 
If it makes a difference the actual cousin is not on Facebook or instagram and probably wouldn’t see the post.

I would wait a day or two.  It wont kill you guys to wait and it would be a nice gesture to give this woman a few days to bask in the attention. I would be annoyed if my cousin or another family member decided the day I delivered was the day bmthe day they announced.

I'd wait a couple of days but still us the same photos. It will still be close enough to Easter to make sense, and if anyone asks you can just honestly say you decided to wait out of respect

Maaaaybe ask your husband’s cousin.. I’d feel SO BUMMED if I couldn’t announce the day I planned (with a themed holiday and everything).. so I get it. 
Maybe just let him know you don’t want to steal the day from them, but you planned on announcing. See what they say. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Just wait. We had a similar situation, and even though we planned on announcing that day, we decided to hold off for a week just out of respect.

I personally would wait because sometimes hormones can cause reactions that aren’t the best. You want your day of announcing to be a happy and joyful day, and right now everyone is focused on that new baby. If I had just given birth I would want people focused on my baby, and also if I was in your situation and took all of that time to get together an announcement I would want people to focus on it. One could overshadow the other!

If you did a holiday themed announcement, then I’d announce as planned.  They can’t blame you for happening to have news to share at the same time.  I’d let them know ahead of time though and say today is the day you were planning to announce all along.

I would wait a little while; just to let the excitement of their new addition be known. Then announce the excitement of your new addition. 
Personally, I would wait a couple of weeks. But I would take that time to come up with a cute simple announcement. And if they don’t know, I would announce to them in a way that allows for subtlety, just to ensure they don’t get upset, especially her with all of the hormones raging through her for the next couple of weeks. You may even consider sending them an announcement and just attach a message to them & day something along the lines of not wanting to over shadow their excitement and maybe a small gift to show your excitement for them as well. That way they know how excited and happy you are for them too. ❤️

I don’t think your announcement will overshadow their baby. If anything it just makes it an extremely exciting time for the family!! I wouldn’t wait. They will be “get their day” anytime they post pictures of their sweet little one on social media. I say go for it!!

My sister in law literally announced in the waiting room while her sister was giving birth...🤣 if anything, she got less of a reaction because “going to have a baby” is just less exciting than an actual baby, unless you are closer to the person who is expecting than the person who just had a baby (and it sounds like for you, all those people already know). So, I’d wait— so both of you can have your day of attention.
