Period after IUD removal

Hey, guys! I just recently (on Thursday) got my IUD taken out. My boyfriend and I are wanting to have a baby. My doctor said to wait until I have my first period to really start trying because my IUD stopped my periods and I haven't had one since about June of last year and he doesn't think my uterus would be able to fully carry a baby until after that first cycle. Well occasionally I'll have pain after having an orgasm and last night he and I had sex twice and I was hurting after and when I went to the bathroom there was light spotting I figured that was just because my doctor said I could have spotting after the removal but I hadn't had any spotting since about an hour after the removal. When I woke up this morning there was definitely more blood and still pain but not enough blood I don't think that would require a tampon or pad but it's more than light spotting. Not sure if this would count as my first period or not? I got my IUD because at the time I didn't want any more kids and because my cycle was so irregular that I went nine and a half months without a period and I definitely was not pregnant at the time.
