How many days of abstinence prior to IUI?

How many days of abstinence did your doctor recommend prior to your IUI procedure? DH and I are doing our first round this month. I start taking opk’s on CD 12 (this coming Friday) but I’m afraid of getting the timing wrong; I’m afraid of having either too many or too little days of abstinence.
