Forced to totally wean before ready
breastfeeding was going AMAZING with my son. This is my second and I had to pump with my first and then bottle feed so this seemed like a breeze. Then about 6 weeks ago my son started having diarrhea (along with fussiness, colic, and sleeping only 1-2 hours at night). My ped recommended cutting dairy, which I did for 10 days, and came back for a follow up appt due to the weight loss and baby still having diarrhea. My ped told me to do a special (expensive!) formula. Within 12 hours he was better, not fussy anymore for the first time in months, no more diarrhea, happy!!
My issue is I wasn’t ready to stop breastfeeding. I didn’t even have time to mentally prepare. I breastfed him for the last time before my appointment without even knowing it would be my last time. I “weaned” him in such a rush with no transition and now I don’t feel right breastfeeding him because he’ll be sick with diarrhea and pain, since we don’t know for sure what he had issues with in my diet. He keeps trying to breastfeed and crying while I’m trying to get a bottle made and it breaks my heart.
I decided to try Paleo diet which would cut dairy and soy, and wait three weeks to try to breastfeed again.
What would you do? Would you just stick to the formula if he’s happy and healthy now? Or would you try to fix your diet for him and pump for 3 weeks?
