Milk supply question

Alondra

breastfeeding was going great. Until my baby boy was 10 days old. We noticed something wasn’t right, we rushed to the children’s hospital, and they had to preform surgery on my little man. His intestines were twisted. We were in the NICU for ten days. With that going on, i had to exclusively pump bc he wasn’t allowed to eat for days.

While i was pumping, it was going great! I would pump an average of 35-40 oz in a day! I was told by the lactationist that my body was making enough milk for twins. Which was great!! Anyway, once he was able to start eating again, breastfeeding was great once again. He latched on right away and would eat every 2-3 hours. On the side he wasn’t eating on, i attached my haakaa to save my milk & would get 3 oz just about every time.

We’ve been home for a week now and suddenly my supply has lowered significantly!! It’s heartbreaking. One day i was getting so much milk and as of ystdy i feel like im almost dried up. I drink a lot of water and still take prenatals. I still pump regularly, only to get 3 oz in total (where i used to get 5-7). When i breastfeed, i know he doesn’t get full bc he cries and sucks on his fingers or hand. & my haakaa only gets an ounce or a little more.

Help! Any suggestions on what to eat/drink/do differently? I really don’t want to stop breastfeeding or giving him my breastmilk.
