Do you have to give your child the father’s last name?

If you are pregnant and not married or together do you have to give your child the father’s last name? No bad blood, but I’d like my child to have my last name. And I’m curious if I have a right to do so or if I have to name the child using the father’s last name.

You don’t have to, but married or not, if you two are planning on raising this baby TOGETHER, then I believe this should be a decision for the BOTH OF YOU. If you will both be equally involved, then I don’t believe it should be the “mothers” decision only. Again, not telling you what to do. Just my opinion of what I think is fair to both of you guys
If you & he both want the baby to have your names, then maybe hyphen it?? 😊 example) Addams-White ?

If your already married the babys name is automatically the dads but if you ain't then you can give the baby your last name or the dads name. The hospital probably wont put the father on the birth certificate if u go with your last name

You definitely do not have to. I spent THOUSANDS of dollars having my daughters last name changed to mine when her bio dad up and disappeared. 
If you don’t give the baby his name, it’s easier to change the name to the fathers last name later than to try to change it to yours if something goes wrong. 
You don’t even have to let the father sign the birth certificate if you don’t want to.

If you want to marry each other eventually I would consider giving the child his last name to save you time and paperwork. My fiancé and I are giving our child his last name even though we will not be married
until after the baby is born.

You can do whatever you want with your child. We weren’t married before having our first however our son does have his name he’s a junior as well it was just a personal decision. But you can give your baby your last name I would have a conversation with your child’s father especially if your together or if you aren’t together but on really good terms it’s a conversation y’all need to have.

No, you definitely don’t have to.  I gave my girls their dad’s last name and regretted it.  I had their names changed when they were older to add mine.  
I’m not married now so this baby will have my last name as well as his dad’s.
