Advice for talking to a navy recruiter?

I’m going in soon to talk to a navy recruiter to get the ball rolling 🤩 I always hear that they lie to you to really sell the military. Is there any advice or experience stories that could help me to get everything out of this meeting with the recruiters?

Don’t let them force you into an MOS you’re not really interested in. If there aren’t any slots open for the MOS you’re interested in, wait until there is. It is so shitty to be stuck in an MOS you don’t like and feel like you were forced into it. Also, don’t take just any MOS because it has a sign on bonus, those are usually the shitty jobs. And I wouldn’t take a sign on bonus for a longer contract either, because you never know how long you’ll want to be in. Life happens, marriage, babies, moving, family gets ill, you may want to sign an 8 year contract, but a 6 is much more practical. And if they give you shitty MOS options because of your ASVAB score, ask them if you can retake it. You can buy a practice book and you’ll probably score like 10-20 points higher than the first time. I agree with getting all your promises and bonuses in writing. If you have a good recruiter, they will go above and beyond for you because their job is to get you to sign. Definitely express the things you want because 90% of the time, they’ll make it happen for you to sign that contract.

As someone in the service, go Air Force. 😅 I love the army and all my friends love the navy, but let me tell you.... Air Force life is maaaaade & way more accommodating for women and families. My husband and I are expecting & we still live 10 hours away from each other 🙃 definitely go Air Force lol

It's simple.
Ask what you want. If your scores are high, it's best. They will want you, they will offer stuff they cant provide just for you to sign. So pleaseeee remember recruiters have no power but to push your paperwork. The MEPS people are the ones who have the jobs, those are the people u "hussle" with... I went in, wanted corpsman.. from the beginning I was told it wasnt available I said I would wait then...recruiter wanted me to sign for something then and he would switch my rate later...it is possible, but not only after u are done with the first contract u signed for, years later and the recruiter has nothing to do with the process! 
I spoke to the people with the jobs and basically waited like 4hours until a corpsman spot opened up "magically " ...recruiters n their chiefs were getting mad at me but at the end is your life and how u r going to spend it, either happy with the job or miserable cause u r stuck.

P.s. like the others said tho, I love the NAVY but if my daughter said to me she was joining I made sure it was AIR FORCE just because I know they accommodate for their people and families.

My recruiter was always up front with me didn’t promise me anything or lie to me, but I had a lot of friends that were in and family members so I really knew what to expect. Just make sure if he promises anything like bonuses you get it in writing. If it ain’t in your contract you’re not getting it
