Cry It Out?

Do you and your significant other (SO) agree about the choice to let/not let your baby cry it out?

Answer

We both read a lot of research and both agree that CIO isn’t worth it in the long run. We’d rather be tired now and have a child that has developed healthy emotionally and mentally, than be rested now and risk the psychological impacts. 
Studies on stress hormones in CIO babies show that they are no less distressed then when they’re crying. They just don’t show it. So effectively CIO doesn’t teach to self soothe, just that no one is coming.

15 min rule hasn't failed us yet. It's been long enough that we know the difference between a somethings wrong cry and other types. 
Basically we let her cry for 15 mins then check on her. Keep in mind she only really cries when we put her to bed. We know the I'm hungry or I pooped myself cries.
Now go to the opposite which is what her brother does. Anytime his son cries they immediately pick him up. The poor kid cant self sooth and hes 18 months where as our daughter 5 and half months will cry, roll in crib find passie and shove it in her mouth and go back to bed.
Every kid is different every parent is different and you do what you think is right. I'm just saying this is my experience and what we do.

I lay him down drowsy but awake and that seems to work for him

We agree except that he let's baby cry before bed WHILE holding him and I try to do whatever I can to stop the crying. Of course, my SO doesn't have the magic that is boob, so he's at a disadvantage.

Man, how we fought about this during the four month sleep regression. He was tired, I was not having it. Baby got held as often as he wanted. He almost six months now and sleeping like a dream.

He will put her down if she’s having a fit he can’t fix but I haven’t and (knock on wood) I haven’t seen a fit I can’t fix yet.
