MOTN Feed with Sleep Training

Tara

Last night we started sleep training. We’re doing Ferber CIO with interval comfort checks. I don’t want any judgement on CIO - to each their own and we decided this was best because my lack of sleep is at in unhealthy level and my son needs the sleep.

He fussed/cried for only 10 minutes at bedtime and then went to sleep. He woke at 12 and I fed him, but fed less time than normal and not to sleep. I put him down and had to go in once to shush him, and he was out.

He woke up again at 4:15 and I was torn about going in and feeding or not. I did feed him, again for a shorter time and not to sleep, and put him down drowsy. But he woke up as soon as he hit mattress, and then the crying began. I was torn about getting him up since it was morning but too early - he normally sleeps until 7 after his 4/5am feed. I did CIO for 3, 8, 5, and 10 intervals. The crying didn’t lessen. Seeing me made it much worse so I sent in my husband. After about 35 minutes, I told my husband to calm him. By that point it was 5:15. I said to pick him up and I went and got him and got him up for the day.

I cried multiple times through process. I tried to stay strong but I questioned myself with the timing and I don’t expect him to quit nighttime feeds cold turkey, so I’m trying to wean as well.

But sleep training is necessary as I put in another post - it’s affecting my mental health and the extreme fatigue almost resulted in me getting into a car accident.

Any advice on MOTN wakings/feeding while sleep training? I’ve seen posts on here of its success and it gives me hope. I hope I didn’t screw it up.
