Metronidazole series side effect
So I started taking metronidazole last night for BV. This morning I noticed my legs felt like they fell asleep, numb and tingly. I looked it up and noticed that this is listed as a series side effect and to stop taking it and call your doctor.
I called my doctor and she said that it is not a side effect from the medication and to keep taking it because that's what you take for BV. I was a little hesitant so I called my pharmacist and she said that it says right on the bottle that it is a serious side effect and that I need to tell my doctor to prescribe me with something else.
So I called them back and they didn't really seem to believe me and said that I should just go to the ER and they don't want to prescribe me with something else in case it's not actually a side effect from the medication.
While I acknowledge that they may not want any liability, it seems that the doctor doesn't really know what they are talking about so I don't really want to go to the ER. They seem to still think it's unrelated while I feel like if they HAD been aware of this being a series side effect then they would have just prescribed me with something else.
Has anyone taken metronidazole and had these side effects? I read that it can cause permanent nervous system issues, is it too late to just stop taking it or do I have to actually get treated now?
I'm sure everyone will say to go to the ER to be sure, I'm just wondering if anyone has had any similar experience.
