How do you make friends in college?

Im shy and an introvert and I’ll be going off to college in a few months. Do any of you have any recommendations on how to make friends in college? Or make friends in general I’m terrible.

I highly recommend befriending / getting to know your classmates. Last year was my first year at Uni, and I knew nobody — like zippo. No one I knew (from high school) went to the same Uni as me so it was a clean fresh slate. What I did was get to know my lab partners, as well as regularly sit with the same people during my lectures and tutorials. Then myself and those people I hung out with formed bonds with each other. Also, try asking them if they have the same classes as you, when they can have a lunch break etc, maybe even find a time to study or catch up on assignments and class work. You could also try joining a sports team or a club where you’ll be regularly active in participation.

Remember to stay open to new situations. It can be daunting, but everyone else there is in the same boat as you, feeling insecure about themselves. There’s so many more people, experiences, and environments than high school. Just be friendly and you’ll get the hang of it.
But remember, most of the people you meet during orientation won’t be your forever-friends. Those come about as you grow throughout your years. Stay tuned. I wish you the best. :)

Join clubs, and if you’re living on campus hangout in common areas. The nice thing about college is everyone is coming in and looking to make friends so you shouldn’t have trouble! They usually force you to do a whole bunch of team building games/ getting to know each other games and that’s how I met some of my friends, as well as just meeting people who lived in my dorm/ had classes with me. Good luck! You’ll love college it’s awesome
