“Massive” constipation keeping baby from dropping??
I’m 36+3 being induced on Friday due to hypertension. I went in for my last appointment with my OB today and she checked me for dilation, but said she couldn’t feel the baby’s head because she was feeling a “massive amount of bowel” that was so big it was physically keeping the baby from moving down. The ultrasound showed the bowel is almost as big as my baby’s head... I thought she was joking when she told me that. It’s only been a week since my last BM. I’ve struggled with constipation since about 20 weeks but I had no idea I was getting this backed up.
She said in these cases the bowel is so big the baby physically just cannot drop and the bowel will keep the baby from moving through the birth canal, therefore it will keep the baby from delivery. She said this has happened to patients before and there have been a few instances where they had to give the patient an epidural and physically go in and clean out the bowel. Ow😭
She told me to drink Magnesium Citrate and take Miralax every day. She said if that doesn’t clean me out then nothing will, and she’ll have to give me an epidural and go in and remove the bowel physically.
Has this ever happened to anybody? Has anybody ever even HEARD of this shit? I did not know this was possible.
Also, Magnesium Citrate. How effective is it? How long does it take to kick in? Does it really work? Lord I hope so.
