Waking up during the night?

My almost 3 year old has been waking up screaming for me or his dad at 2 am almost every day this week. It started maybe a week and a half ago. When we go in there he wants to get down and play or just wants us to lay with him. I have an 8 month old daughter who sleeps down the hall so I can’t just let him have his screaming fit (he could wake the dead with his screams). But dad and I are getting exhausted, it’s like having a newborn all over again. Any advice if this is a phase or if anyone else has gone through this?
