How did you know labor was starting?

Question

I'm only 34 weeks, so not planning on having baby just yet but I'm curious what contractions feel like? Is it like painful cramps? Ftm here, I haven't experienced any Braxton hicks so I'm not sure what to really look out for or expect. 
Today I have been feeling nauseous for the first time in months, and am starting to get some pressure right above my pubic bone which I know is normal but it got me thinking about what'll be happening in a few weeks! How did you feel before you went into real labor?

I had absolutely no symptoms the night before my due date, I woke up on my due date just before 5 am to pee and when I stood up my water broke and light contractions started after I was only 1cm when I got to the hospital. I didn’t experience anything in the days before my water broke ... not much help but that was my experience and everyone is different

I ended up being induced with my son because I was showing signs of preeclampsia & my BP was very high. But the decision wasn’t made u til I went into the ER because of cramping that had gone on for 24 hours. Apparently they were in fact really strong contractions and I didn’t even know! I wasn’t in any pain really even with strong contractions until after my water broke.

I was induced due to gestational hypertension & developed pre-eclampsia while in labor. I labored for 75.5 hours and my contractions were stronger than the monitor could read for at least 2 days, but I hardly felt them. They weren’t as bad as my period cramps, so I feel like it’s different for everybody.

Me too. I did not have braxton hix. I was 40 weeks pregnant and contractions start every 6 mins apart straight. Ur tummy will feel tight. And its like period pain at first. Ull definitely know the contraction. Dont forget to download contraction timer!

With my son labor started as what felt like bad GI cramps. TMI probably but ya know those GI cramps that go with bad diarrhea? Yeah it was like that. I kept going and sitting on the toilet thinking I needed to poop but I didn't. After around 10 hours of that my water broke so that's when I headed into L&D.
With my daughter I was induced for pre-E. The nurse told me to let her know when the contractions were strong enough that if I were at home I would call my doctor to say I thought I was in labor. I was having strong contractions on the monitor for awhile before they were painful enough that I would have called my doctor. Once I got to the "yeah I would call now" point I was almost to transition. I had my daughter about an hour later.
