My doc hasnt checked my dialation?

Just left my 38 wk appt. All my doctor ever does is listen to the baby's heart beat and sends me on me on my way. Has anyone else's dr been so laid back and hands off towards the end of your pregnancy? Do I have to ask him to check or should it be routine?

My midwives don't check for dilation unless there's a reason and/or you're in active labor.  It means very little.  Someone woman walk around dilated a couple cms weeks before labor.  And some go from 0-10 in a matter of hours.  Cervix checks can lead to false hope or being unnecessarily discouraged.

Mine is like this. But at my 37 weeks , I was complaining about cramps , so she asked if I wanted her to check. I wasn't dilated. 
I don't think it's a major thing to have it checked , it really doesn't mean much until active labour.

Mine checked but only because I asked her to. Dilation doesn’t really mean labor is coming. I’ve been 1 cm for two weeks. My friend who just had a baby was 4 cm for almost a month and she was still induced.

Mine checks every week after 36 weeks 😩 but each week I’m progressing so hopefully I’ll be dilated this appointment

My midwife didnt check with any of my pregnacys onmy the end to this one as i have had pains for ages and they got advice to give me a strech and sweep at 37weeks, if i didnt have that i wouodnt of been checked. I was 1cm dilated when i went in nearly 3weeks ago and still pregnant x

Mine won’t check until I’m past 40 weeks.
They induce at 41.
