Should we get an Owlet??

Question

Recommendations for owlet baby monitor? First baby due in a few weeks and we're planning on getting one, just want to hear from those that have/don't have one.

I never even considered bying it. The way I see it, it induces anxiety rather than alleviate it. I just followed all WHO  recommendations to avoid SIDS and tried to remain calm and enjoy my baby.

I have one and absolutely could not sleep without it. My LO sleeps in a pack n play next to my bed but having the monitor on helps reduce some of my anxiety without checking if she’s breathing all the time.
People talk about false alarms, but I’d rather be woken up by something not happening, than not woken up for something that IS.
My owlet has gone off twice for my 9 week old when her HR dropped below 60. Now she’s being monitored for sleep apnea diligently by me and her pediatrician.
I’m glad that I have one.

Regarded not safe by AAP. Has also been known to burn baby’s feet. Also no scientific proof it works in fact has research it gives more false alarms and induced anxiety than helped. Only medical grade breathing monitors work and they are not available to public.

While they are nice I think they are WAY too much money. I won't be getting one. Plenty of babies turn out just fine without it. To me the money is better spent on other things for the baby.

I we got one with my first because I had anxiety really bad after he was born. It was to the point where I was waking up several times a night to touch him and check to make sure he was still breathing.  With the owlet it helped give me peace of mind and significantly decreased the excessive amount of times I was waking up to check his breathing. They only "false alarm" we ever had was once when it was put on incorrectly it slipped off but the alarm when it slips off is a different alarm from a low oxygen alarm anyways.

I absolutely love mine! I wouldn’t have gotten sleep without it. I didn’t have any false alarms and we’ve been using it every night for 11 months now. You can buy them used or refurbished for cheaper.

We love ours. I see a lot of people say stuff about it being a waste of money because babies have been fine without them for this long, but it’s as much for the parents as it is for the baby. My anxiety/ppd was way worse than I ever expected it would be, so I’m really glad I had the Owlet to help me relax and sleep during the first couple months.

My family insisted on buying me one. We had a family member's baby pass away from SIDS so I am a little more paranoid than most so I hope when my little one comes it helps. Everyone I know that has used it said they loved it!

I got their camera which just came out but haven’t used it yet and I chose not to get the sock :)
