Was he trying to take advantage of me

This boy ghosted me for a year, he used to go to my school, he asked to be my bf and i agreed, he asked for my address and I told him, he still hasn’t gave me the gifts he said he would, and he told me a lot of things (but I felt like he was taking advantage of me or he might have been lonely) I told him if he wants me to talk to him he’ll get me the things he promised me Bc it’s only fair. I don’t know what to think about this situation because this stuff has happened before in the past with older guys and a few other people my age. But he doesn’t seem to be the type that’s lonely and he’ll talk to me a romantically which he doesn’t seem to do either. But I don’t get why he chose me specifically
