Can't go vegetarian :(

I went vegetarian a few months ago, been wanting to do it for so long, but I felt like I needed to do some research first. From the start I took the needed vitamins, including iron. Pretty soon after I had gone vegetarian I felt really unwell. I'd be dizzy and even pass out, so I went to my doctor. My iron levels have always been exceptionally high, I haven't needed to take iron supplements even when pregnant, and now they were extremely low, and that was the cause for me not feeling well. I tried a few different iron supplements, but it didn't get better. I otherwise eat vegetables and such high in iron, but it didn't do anything, so I had to go back to eating meat and as soon as I did I felt good again. My doctor said it's because the body takes up iron in meat much better than the iron from vegetables and supplements. Apparently it's kind of a different type of iron in meat, also meat is super rich on iron and can't really compare to the iron in vegetables. I'm really disappointed it didn't work out. My doctor said most people can go vegetarian without issues, but I'm not one of them. They suggested maybe having meatless days, but that I can't go fulltime vegetarian health wise. Has anyone else experienced this and how did you deal with it? I feel like such a failure.
