Alright ladies -
I was 40+2 days when I was scheduled for induction.
The day precious at my appointment we confirmed time and did our non-stress test/ and fluid level scan. Both were fabulous.
Well at that point at the appointment we did a cervical check and I was at 3cm. I didn’t even know I was dilated at all. We swept my membranes right there.
We schedule induction for Tuesday 5/14 at 7am.
Got a slow start due to some un-clarified orders. Figured that out. Midwife came in at 8am checked cervix and I was at a 5 already. We were going to induce with cytotec (a cervical suppository) but I was having mild contractions without knowing it. They were too frequently together, so we couldn’t do that option. That’s such good progress though Considering the appointment before at 40+5 I was still 1cm and 50%. I got my antibiotics at 8:17 for my GBS and we broke my water at 8:30. By 9:30 I was having intense labor contractions. Had two bites of food and that was it. We were in full on active labor. I was either dehydrated so I got 2L of fluid through the whole entire labor. My contractions were too close together. My midwife was trying to slow them down in between so I had relief. It worked for a while and then as things started progressing I got fentanyl about 2 times. Low dose at 10 and then a higher dose about 11. (That stuff is amazing btw)
We didn’t have time for an epidural because within the start of active labor and then the end of holding baby we were technically 3hrs a little closer to 4hr.
I never received a second dose of antibiotics. (Baby was born 10 minutes before the next dose was due. )
I have a posterior cervix already. Not a good thing when you want to deliver vaginally. About 9/10cm baby got stuck on the anterior portion. That was pain. That was truly agonizing pain. Up until that point I was doing okay with the pain management (hence the higher dose of meds)
Baby almost ripped my cervix. 🤷🏼♀️ who knew that was a thing. I’m told I have a nice nasty bruise though.
Finally got onto my back from laboring on hands and knees. And the midwife swept the cervix off of him. After that we had him within 10 minutes of pushing. He was born.
He had the cord wrapped around his neck and under his arm like a choker and a purse. This was a pleasant surprise because we were told we had a short placental cord.
After he was born he was placed on my chest I took one look at him and looked at the nurse and said “he needs help” and pointed to the warmer. That was that. They clipped the cord and then took him away for about 10 minutes. Baby finally was breathing. I knew- I had a feeling baby would be needing help when they were born. I just knew.
I then had to deliver the placenta- I was given pitocin for that as well to help clamp down my uterus.
The reason the midwifes had me deliver it and then not assist- is because if they had tugged on the cord it might have separated and spliced he cord in half. Leaving me to bleed out.
My cord was a velementous cord insertion. I had this with my daughter and was told it was a fluke 1% of the population has this. Which is why we never caught it on ultrasound the first time.
This time though we had to take precautions because baby’s cord this time was more fragile. Yes it was long! Awesome but it was stretched thin. It was weak.
However the cord insertion was the scary part. It was worst than when I had it with my daughter. The significance between the two scares me.
Both times I’ve been diagnosed with preeclampsia.
First time was the reason for the induction. It wasn’t until after baby was born that we found out I was pre-eclamptic. My liver and platelet counts were out of whack and my urine had higher amounts of protein in it within minutes. The funny thing is. None of this showed the day previously at my appointment. It all started with the progression of “labor”. My blood pressure shot way up after having my baby and the midwife was concerned I was internally bleeding but instead it was the preeclampsia being it’s typical self.
So me and my little baby have been at the hospital 2 days now being watched.
Baby for oxygen/breathing and any sign of infection due to the GBS, and me for the preeclampsia / blood pressure / blood counts and immense swelling I had after baby was born.
Otherwise we are doing fabulous! This labor was so much easier and amazing than my first. Less traumatic and less stressful.

(Picture today with little mister and less swelling)
Thanks for hanging in there with me and my whining ladies !
Appreciate all the support and love 😘 good luck to the rest of you mamas!!!
