Paragard

I’m trying to find the best birth control option for me since I have been with my boyfriend for a long time and we have no sort of protection when having sex. I am afraid of weight gain and mood swings which is what has prevented me from going on it in the past. My new doctor is recommending paragard IUD but says the only bad side effect is heavier periods. Does anyone have any input on this? Has anyone tried this IUD?
