Past hookup now coworker- Is this guy creepy or stupid??

Alright so about a year ago I hooked up with this dude and told him I didn’t want anything serious at all. Well, he started bringing me gifts, coming to my work and lingering, hitting me up all the time, etc. so at last I was like “Hey I don’t think we’re on the same page, I don’t wanna see you anymore but good luck with life 👍” but he was all pissed off that we couldn’t be friends. Over some months he continued to text me and I wouldn’t respond. Fast forward to January of this year when I transferred to my university from the state college and wouldn’t you know it??? It’s where he goes too. So I start seeing him in passing and he starts asking me to hang out again, asking if I’m in the dating pool, etc and I told him I just wanted us to be friendly acquaintances and nothing more. 
Well, about a week or two ago, he texts me to say he’s looking for a job and had talked to my boss. He wanted to “confirm it wouldn’t be a problem” to work together upon which I informed him it WOULD be a problem and urged him to seek elsewhere. Well, my boss hired him bc he didn’t know. Was my response appropriate?

I even told him a BUNCH of other close by places in my city that I knew FOR A FACT we’re hiring. Your thoughts?

I'd say he is a bit of both. I'd probably discuss with HR that I think this man might be stalking me, explain the situation briefly, and ask if he could be reassigned to another area away from you asap.

Sounds low-key stalkerish 😬 don't hold back on saying you don't want to see him and say it STRONG and bluntly, maybe threaten legal action idk. All I know is that it's creepy as fuck

I would immediately inform my boss if I felt comfortable in that relationship dynamic to let them know there could be a potential issue in the future (this guy crossing your boundaries). That is creepy and disrespectful as fuck for him to pursue your place of employment after you’ve multiple times had to “remind” (he didn’t need reminders) him you don’t want anything to do with him. This dude clearly loves pushing boundaries. He makes my skin crawl just reading about this.

Be very careful. Around campus, at work, walking to your car, at home. Try to keep a buddy system when you can and be aware of your surroundings. He sounds like his obsessed / stalking you and I've watched way to many discovery  ID specials in TV... I'd just be very cautious

I would try and get different shifts and make sure he doesn't know the shifts until HR is aware of what's going on.
Unfortunately I had a work harassment thing in a previous job and HR did not have my back and gave the guy the option to work a few more days after a HUGE incident where there was proof and everything. Luckily I didn't work those last few days because I was scared for my life. But sometimes you need to take matters in your own hands and I told them straight up that I will not be working those last few days because this man knew I was the reason he's being fired.

that’s creepy for sure. you said you did not want to see him again, he kept coming to your work bringing gifts etc anyways. it’s unfortunate you transferred to his school but if you kept trying to ignore him and he still caught up to you/tried to talk to you, that’s not your fault. he could very easily ignore you too and just move on with his life. now he KNEW you wanted nothing to do with him and he KNEW you worked there, he even asked if it was okay and then bluntly ignored what you said. i understand that he needs a job/money but he could have at least applied to the other places you mentioned. it’s getting borderline stalkerish and i don’t blame you at all for being uncomfortable. talk to your boss, and if the guy is still hired, maybe see if it’s possible you work in separate divisions/rooms so you don’t have to see each other? explain to him your situation and be prepared to come back as many times as it takes if the guy continues to be creepy. don’t be afraid of filing a million harassment complaints

Its very weird. I’d let your boss know of your uneasiness with him. Just as a friendly FYI so your boss is clued in on your history from the start. They will hopefully accommodate you on alternative shifts when possible. 
Keep a diary of your interactions with him so if something does come about you will have a timeline of events.

Maybe you should look for work elsewhere. I know you shouldn't have to. But if this is going to creep you out it might be worth the the hassle.
