Separation anxiety HELP!!?
My son will be 1 on June 4th and he has, what I believe to be, severe separation anxiety. He's been like this for almost his entire year of life!!
As a newborn (0-4months) he didn't want to be put into swings or bouncers etc. He absolutely refused to sleep in his bassinet and as he grew older none of this behavior got any better.
Now that he is almost 1, he's walking and he seems to have gotten worse with his separation anxiety. He cries nonstop if I leave the room, and it doesn't matter who else is in the room with him. I've tried the whole "ignore and let him cry" thing, but I can't let him that long! I have to pick him up because he literally does not stop, instead he cries harder and louder. It's heartbreakingly unbearable to see (and hear) him like this.
His dad seems to think he doesn't find comfort in him (and thinks our baby doesn't like him) because our son is so attached to me and it makes me feel sad because i know he loves his dad. And I want his dad to know that (if only our son would just stop being so clingy to me) And now this has become almost a daily "argument"/discussion, that I dread having to have. (YES I breastfeed and I am a SAHM)
What can I do to help him and to try to break this habit? AND help him be more comfortable with other people (at least his dad!!) **We cant even get a babysitter (even family) because he cries and fusses the whole time!!**
