How many do you recommend for the following?

Baby blankets, swaddles, towels, wash clothes? I’m a FTM so starting from scratch. I’ve received a lot of these as gifts from baby showers already. Also I have two hooded towels and then already some regular small thinner towels- can I use these? They are very soft.

You can use the towels you already have.  How much you need depends on how often you will do laundry,  as well as how messy your baby is, lol.  2 blankets, 3-4 swaddles, 2 towels and a dozen washcloths should be plenty.

I though I needed so many towels, and now I have way too many. I don’t bathe him every day, so I use about 2 hooded towels, though regular adult ones would have been fine.

For swaddle/ sleep sacks I would definitely recommend to not get multiples of 1 style,  but rather get 1 each of a bunch of different styles.  When you can't figure out which one baby likes it is a lifesaver to have options to try!
For blankets have at least 3 seasonally appropriate blankets to rotate through (muslin for summer, fuzzy for cooler weather). Blankets get spit up on a lot.

I got a 10 pack of Gerber cloth diapers to use as burp cloths and went through them so fast I got a second pack. 
I used Copper Pearl swaddle blankets instead of getting them separately. I have two. I used the baby quilts that people made us to put on the floor in each room as a safe baby spot (protects floor from drool and spit up).
Two towels and 2-4 wash cloths is enough for me. But what I use ALL the time is cloth wipes that you get from cloth diaper retailers. I actually made my own from old flannel bedsheets. Three dozen has been a good amount—I use them for diapering, cleaning up after meals, in the bath, etc. I kept a few in the diaper bag to use as breast pads in a pinch during the early leaking breastfeeding period. 
You’ll probably want to try a variety of swaddles. SwaddleMe and Halo with the Velcro wings are great but there are a ton of options. Get or borrow a few bc they will work at different stages and not at others. I had two of whatever kind was working for us at the time.

We ended up with about 10 blankets and only use one right now. I have 5 SwaddleMe zipper pods. I've got about 9 or 10 hooded towels and like 20+ wash cloths.

So I had about 8 different blankets only because lots of them were gifts, but it was nice because some we used strictly at home but then we had ones we used when we went out and we had thick and light depending on weather. Swaddles I had 6 because my last two babies love love loved them so it was worth me getting laot since they loved them BUT I will say not all babies like being swaddled.. maybe buy a pack of swaddles and if the baby likes them then maybe get one more pack?

1 medium thickness blanket
8-10 swaddle or receiving type blanket
3 halo sleep sacs
2 towels
10-15 burp cloths - these are great to use for leaky boobs as well when nursing. Sometimes babies fuss or are messy and milk everywhere
5-10 soft bibs
3 food bibs plastic

2 towles should be fine .. I'd get alot of blankets like 4 or 5... wash clothes you can never have enough! .. I never used swaddled lol
