Vaginal birth question for moms

Hey I have a question for moms who had a vaginal birth...I’m looking for advise and what was your experience.

is it normal during the first few pushes for the doctor or midwife to insert their finger to see/check if the baby is coming down. During the pushing. Not after nor before?

I know all doctors are different but how do you know your pushing “correctly”?

I went through labor and my baby was at station -2, 100% effaced and 10cm dilated, and the doctor said it was time to push. So I started and after a few pushes she kept telling me I’m doing something wrong and doesn’t think I’m pushing.

While I’m pushing with all my might. This is my first baby fyi. But eventually after the doctor kept telling me this I just gave up and went with an elective c-section.

I don’t at all regret my decision but now I’m just thinking was it possible for me to “push wrong”? The doctor didn’t tell me any details on how I was pushing wrong or how to push correctly.
