We used it this past year with my then kindergartner and 4th grader. We used the language, geography, art, and nature notebook aspects.

Positives:

I loved that everything interconnected. Example: One of the first coursework sections for 4th grade included reading about an Italian immigrant family. The art included Italian art and landscapes, geography explored Italy, there were Italian recipes to make, traditional Italian music to look up, etc.

My son LOVED the art. It truly was beautiful with plenty of hands on projects.

My oldest normally hates reading. The reading passages were usually interesting enough to keep his attention, taught a good moral lesson, and were still short enough that he didn’t get burnt out.

It was quick and easy to complete for my 4th grader.

It’s affordable.

It’s set up to only be 4 days a week. I didn’t personally like that aspect, but I know many will see that as a plus.

Jenny Phillips has online videos to help with things like sentence diagramming.

The nature notebook and creative writing journal were both great.

Negatives:

I constantly had a feeling we weren’t doing enough challenging work.

The Kindergarten curriculum wasn’t nearly as user friendly as I was expecting. We used Abeka for Pre-K, so it could just be that I was expecting more of a checklist for each day which is not the way this curriculum is set up. It skipped too much without explanation, especially on phonics, for my liking. We ended up buying the books only Abeka kindergarten curriculum to supplement in that regard.

Some of the stories were degrading towards other cultures/ways of life. Example: One of the last stories in the 4th grade curriculum was about two British people going to South America on an exploratory expedition to get artifacts from the indigenous peoples for a British museum. The way they talked about the native people and their way of life was completely unacceptable in my opinion. I refused to let my son read it, and we had a long talk about appreciating and respecting other cultures/people. I have this same complaint with many religious curricula though including Abeka.

I felt the writing assignments for 4th grade were much too easy compared to what other curricula teach.
