Ava- Induced and delivered baby girl 5/3

Ashley

I chose to have an induction the night of 5/2. My doctor gave us the delivery options at my 39 week checkup. We really wanted him to deliver the baby so we chose to induce. I was 3.5 cm dilated at the office.

I was induced with pitocin at around 9:45 pm after I arrived at the hospital at 8:30pm.

It was the longest night of my life! Steady contractions all night. No sleep. At 6 am they said they were going to “up” the pitocin. At 6am I was only 4cm.

That’s when the pain kicked into high gear for 2 hours. At about 8:00 am I asked for pain medicine through my IV. That helped and then wore off. Then the pain was about a 7 out of 10 for me. Since the IV med wore off I could not get it again. I asked about my epidural and he was “coming but your still not dilated enough”. So I asked what other options and they said laughing gas type thing. I was desperate so I opted for that. It was not worth it. I hated it. Made me dizzy and didn’t really help me with the pain. You have to breath it in during each contraction.

So then my pain at about 11am was a 9 out of 10 when the said the anesthesiologist would be there in 5 mins. Sitting up to get the shot was pretty rough. And having contractions while getting the shot was the worst part.

At that point my body was so tired and just ready for a little bit of relief. And I can say once I got the shot I was SO much happier. Night and day difference in comfort level. All the pain pretty much went away. I could actually doze in and out of sleep during my contractions.

It wasn’t long after that that I was 10cm dilated. 30 mins of pushing and my beautiful daughter was here. 7lb 7 oz.
