What is something you didn't know before labor, birth, or the arrival of baby? But wish that you would have known?

That recovery is literally the worst part of pregnancy and the worst thing you’ll ever go through in LIFE. It’s awful. It’s uncomfortable, painful as fuck, and disgusting. NO ONE told me about recovery.

If I'm honest, how you feel after delivery. I dont think postpartum symptoms are spoken about enough. Loads of people speak about how painful labour and birth is. But the postpartum journey was totally unexpected for me because what I was experiencing  I never heard of. The sweats, baby blues and what baby blues truly mean, mental health, physical health, and the rest of it.

The total lack of sleep due to babies weird hours and the pain while first nursing. Postpartum emotions.

Postpartum. I knew about the blood, but the rest was a surprise. That I would be in pain for 8 whole weeks afterward, the baby blues, the guilt over how much I missed my old life—that stuff was hard, definitely harder than labor/delivery for me.

How much harder post partum is then I thought it would be. Seriously don’t under estimate how hard labour and birth are on your body. The bleeding, after birth pains, healing, stitches, learning to breastfeed. The first month is rough.

I wish I would have been warned how bad my body odor would be for a few weeks afterward 😂 I felt like I smelled like I’d been running a marathon when all I was doing was sitting around! And it wasn’t just due to less frequent showers because it was the same even after a shower.

That after birth it feels like your vagina is sagging and is going to fall out when you stand up. My swelling was worse after birth than it ever was when I was pregnant, my feet were the worst, I could barely put on the shoes I went to the hospital in.

I wish I would have known that if you’re opting for a natural med free labor then there are other things that should be going on...movement to help bring baby down, water, techniques for back labor...  I was in the dark and confused. No one was telling me anything or trying to help. They also turned off my epidural without asking or informing, so I could feel the contractions. I pushed for 2 hrs and confused as to why I felt like I was being ripped apart with a chainsaw in hell the entire time. That was lame and very upsetting to learn afterwards.

1. Contractions are worse than pushing.
(I thought it was the other way around)
2. If you get an epidural your body might not be able to pee for a few hours after giving birth.

A nipple shield can save your nursing journey! I used one only for a week while my nipples healed. It was super easy to wean her off of it. Then we continued to nurse for 9 more months instead of me quitting at 1 week
