Adult Driver Permit

Hi I would like to start driving before I go to college but I do not know how to obtain a permit before I get my drivers license. I plan to do the 6 hour aceable course. But i don’t understand what to do afterwards. So ive tried looking it up n everything says different things so from your experience how do I obtain a drivers permit? Do i just go to dps n take another test? Or do I walk in n b like i passed the aceable test (show em) can i have my permit?
