I was told I wasn't in labour...

Tori

Hi Girls! (&Guys)

I wanted to share with you my labour and delivery story as it was pretty unusual, I'd love to know your stories too!

Here it goes..

On 28th May I was asked to come into the birthing centre at 9pm to begin my induction process. I was over the moon! I'd get to FINALLY meet my baby girl.

We arrived at the birthing centre and I was placed on the monitor. The monitor showed that I was having mild contractions which I had mistook for baby's movements (oops!). I was examined by a midwife who told me that my cervix was right back and that I'd have to have a propess inserted for 24 hours in order to properly kick start my labour. Awesome.

This was not a very pleasant experience but once the propess was in place I began to feel some pain with my contractions. I described them as period pains that radiated through to my back to the midwife and she simply told me that I wasn't contracting and that it was just false labour. Okay? We were sent home at 11:40pm and went straight to bed as this was possibly my last chance to get a good night's sleep!

That whole night I kept having these period type pains accompanied by this radiating lower back pain but I just passed it off as a side effect of the propess like I had been told.

At 7:13am I took a trip to the bathroom and found that my propess had fallen out. Great. Time to call the birthing centre. It was now that the 'contractions' started getting intense. I couldn't walk through them, talk through them, nothing.

We were asked to go back to the birthing centre to get the propess refitted and when I was examined again I was told the same, no progress 🤷‍♀️ Maybe my baby girl just wasn't ready yet.

I had the propess put back in and explained to my midwife that I was sure that I was in labour. She reassured me that it was just pain and that my labour hadn't started. About 30-40 minutes later the pains got near unbearable and I started feeling like I needed to make a bowel movement 😬 I told my midwife this and she just told me it was because baby's head was sitting right on my cervix. That made sense to me.

Another 20 minutes pass and I'm holding off the urge to push. I ask to be examined as I was just in so much pain and my baby's heart beat was dropping during each contraction.

My midwife, with a look of shock and disbelief in her eyes told me that I was fully dialated and baby had made her way into my pelvis and was ready to come. She removed my propess and told me to start pushing.

After 38 minutes of pushing and an episiotomy later my baby girl was here ❤️

Listen to your bodies girls, I knew I was in labour but was told several times that it was false.
