Fertility exams, Needed or Not???

Recently I went to the doctor to get information on having a baby. Doctor mentioned she usually has couples wait a year before any testing however I’m 38 and she right away requested that I get blood work done. She mentioned that these exams are usually not covered by insurance. 
Do I really need these exams or not necessary? Should I wait and try a couple of months before I go spending a thousand dollars on blood work?

As a benefits professional, I would highly recommend you get the procedure and diagnosis codes from your doctor and call your insurance company to verify what is covered and what isn't. The blood work that is often ran for fertility/infertility actually doesn't hit an infertility benefit. Even plans that don't cover assisted fertility services (like IUI, IVF, etc) have covered for the diagnosis of infertility and medical treatment related to an issue; they may just not cover the assisted fertilization piece. Best thing to do is verify your exact coverage, and the codes will allow you to do that. I would agree with others and have what you can done sooner rather than later. Good luck!

I would if you have insurance.  I’m so mad I didn’t and insurance ran out. Everything is ok with me expect my progesterone after I ovulate I dont have enough.

I would honestly get the blood work done because there are certain things that can be really damaging to a fetus if you were to get pregnant and didn’t know about it. STD testing and checking for current infections is very important before pregnancy which I had no idea until I was actually pregnant and going through the testing then

I personally wouldn’t waste any time. You need to know what your dealing with. Blood work for both of you and sperm analysis for your husband. You can do this through your primary care doctors too. Gynos will push for a year but your doctor is already willing to help

You can try on your own first but if you do I would use opks and start temping then you have an idea on if you ovulate and when.
