NICU Protocol

Jo • 1 Ectopic 2 early losses, now mommy to the beautiful E 🧡🧡🧡💗

As a neonatal nurse here in the UK I’m interested in the US process. I’ve seen quite a few late preterms over 34 weeks all going to the NICU. The unit I work is a level 3 until so we take the very smallest and the very sickest babies and any baby that needs our care. We hardly have any baby’s over 34 weeks come to the unit. They do need extra observations like blood sugar and temperature but that’s all done on the postnatal ward by the midwifes. It is just protocol in the US that babies that need these extra observation go to the NICU?? All these early arrivals looks great and will be home before you know it. I’m just asking out of interest.
