Breast feeding but drinking alcohol?

Question

I heard that you shouldn’t breast feed and drink alcohol... and which I wouldn’t. I would probably pump beforehand just so if I’m out with some friends my baby will still have some milk. But how long do you ladies usually wait to you feed your baby after drinking?

My doctor has told me with all of my pregnancies if you can legally drive a car you can feed your baby

So my breastfeeding class teacher (pregnant with her 7th baby) said the phrase “if you can find them, you can feed them” meaning if you’re not too drunk to where you lose your baby you’re good enough to feed them. But probably playing more conservative than that would be best.

I just took the breastfeeding class and they say 2-3 hours for 1 drink.

If you can drive you can nurse! There’s actually not a high level of the alcohol that gets in your milk. You also don’t need to pump and dump when you drink. As long as your not engorged you can wait until you’re sober then your milk is sober. It leaves the milk the same way it leaves your blood stream.

You can buy test strips that tell you when the alcohol is out of the milk.

In the breastfeeding class I took she said 2 hours per drink. She said if you drink at home drink while babies eating so by the next feeding its cleared out. As far as going out goes, she said see how you feel in the morning and if you feel good then go ahead and feed but if you still feel a little eh to wait it out until you feel 100% sober.

I just took a class and they said if your legal to drive your good to breast feed. Breast milk is like your blood so the alcohol will make its way in and out of your milk after some time but pumping and dumping won’t speed it up or change it. Pumping before hand if you know they will have a feeding before it gets out of your system sounds like a good plan to me or using whatever stored milk you may have by then.

There have been lots of studies on this. Not to encourage heavy drinking (be responsible you have a baby) but studies have shown that if moms bac is .08 (drunk for me) her breast milk has less alcohol than grape juice. I go by the of you can’t drive rule. I breastfed my son for 18 months and had zero issues. Don’t waste your money in the strips.

I’ve read 48 hours, but I feel that’s too risky. I’m not going to drink until I’m finished with breastfeeding altogether.
