When to find a Pediatrician?

Question

When is a good time to start looking for a pediatrician? Also should I contact them before baby comes because I know there is a medical appointment the baby has to go to after birth.

Last pregnancy I started scheduling meetings to talk with all the pediatricians to see who I felt I liked best and how they interacted. I started at 28 weeks so I had time and I was glad I did it was a relief to have it done sooner

Yes, contact them,  you can even ask to meet with them to make sure you feel like they are suitable to care for your kid! You want someone who will work for you, not someone who feels like you owe them something! I finally found a pediatrician about 1 1/2 hrs away that I like! I called her and spoke with her, she said I could come in whenever I was ready after baby arrives! I will probably post pone until after flu season but it’s nice to know she is there when/if I need her!

Its giod to start looking now. Depending on your area pediatrician's may be full and not accepting new patients. Its good to get on the list in advance just in case. Plus they will have to do several check ups on baby shortly after birth.

My hospital required confirmation of a pediatrician 1 week appointment before they would discharge me. Didn’t know this til after delivery...so I basically had 1.5 days to find one that had availability.
