Do people actually decide if they want a c-section or normal birth? (If they arent "forced" one way or the other)

This isnt a dumb question... I'm just wondering if some girls decide they want a c-section opposed to pushing the baby out. Is that even an option?

Typically it's discouraged to have a c section unless you need it medically. It's really up to your dr if they allow an elective c section without medical reason. 
As someone who has had 2 vaginal births and 2 c sections, I would never opt for a c section. It's major surgery and comes with risk of complications. My 2nd c section was a year ago and I'm about to have another abdominal surgery to repair a hernia, my friend also got an incisional hernia after her 2nd c section, a 3rd friend of mine got a serious infection from hers. My vaginal births, yeah I had to labor, but it was a few hours and then I was fine.

My doctor suggested a c-section but it was my decision. This was because I was having twins, so it probably would’ve been different if I’d just had one baby.

I know a few people where they needed an emergency c section, sometimes it's not a choice. but I think people are able to plan one if they really wanted to.

I've had 2 csections.. this time around they gave me the choice of either a vback or another csection.  I choose csection

It’s your right to decide how you give birth. Doctors will try to discourage a c-section but cannot refuse you.

My SIL decided she wanted a c-section because she didn’t want to stretch out her lady bits so it was 100% her decision, despite her doctors opinion against it. Honestly, I don’t think most doctors would go for that, though. My doctor tried everything possible to avoid a c-section for me, but sometimes it’s unavoidable if it’s the safest option to avoid a lawsuit (ie if your pelvis isn’t shaped correctly to push a baby out, if your baby is breech, if your baby is distressed, if Momma’s health is failing, etc).

I got to decide what I wanted to do and I opted for a csection and I haven’t had any complications so far and I’m 6 weeks postpartum.
