Television and videos dos and don'ts!?

I'm 28 years old with one child one years old
Everyone I know personally puts on baby music videos or cartoons for thier kids even babies. Like literally every single person I know and people they know. I don't mean like sit them there and not interact but let thrm watch it. But when I talk about TV on here people called me a bad lazy mom and said I was stupid and need to educate myself. (not trying to call out just stating what happened) So I'm wondering...
How many of you let your kids toddlers or babies watch some TV? What is yous creen time policy? What works for your family? 
It's so weird cus when I wasn't letting him watch TV people I know got mad and said I was being foolish but when I say I did let him have some on here people got mad too 
I'm just curious about what difference moms do

I don’t know anyone who is screen free with kids either and I teach elementary school. I my opinion, it’s about balance. We try to get him outside most of the time but on really bad weather days, we snuggle up and will watch a movie. We don’t allow anyone to buy him a tablet and we don’t let him have our phones or anything like that. Just TV or movies here or there. Usually we limit him to an hour a day. We also do a lot of fine motor practice. Picking up little things and putting them in a jar, coloring, placing reusable stickers, etc. He’ll be 2 in September. He also likes to play in the garden, look for bugs, ride the tractors, and push his tiny wheel barrow around. His sand and water table is a huge hit as well.

My son turns 1 next week and we are screen free. I started with good habits so I don’t rely on it at all for anything and don’t anticipate turning to it anytime soon. There’s nothing that tv offers that can’t be bettered by a real world experience.

If we are home, the tv is on. I can’t stand silence and need background noise. My kids don’t sit in front of it and veg out, they only watch in passing from time to time if something catches their attention. They’re 3 and 1 and perfectly fine.

My tv in my house is almost always on for back ground noise bc I can’t do the silence . Makes my head hurt so my kids watch it in passing and when they drawing playing ect or some times they just sit down an watch a movie. It’s never affected my kids and it’s been like this their whole life. Their 11 &8 years old and almost 5 months

My goal is to not let my baby watch tv or have screen time until he’s significantly older. He is six months now. I definitely don’t ever put anything on specifically geared toward him like kid shows or something. If I feel the need for music I’ll play some from my phone but set it out of the way where he’s not watching it. However, my husband likes to watch shows in his down time and my baby is often in the room while they’re playing. I try to hold my baby on my lap and interact with him or nurse him so he’s not facing the tv to watch it. If I’m having a hard time keeping him from watching we will either turn it off or I’ll go to another room with him to let my husband finish watching. I am on my phone quite a bit with my baby but I try to not let him get caught up in looking at my screen and I’m currently trying to break the habit of always having my phone with me.

I always said I would be that way but I was a single mom for 3 years, sometimes they don't want to let you shower or cook or clean and come on..it's gotta get done. That being said my son didn't watch tv for about the first year of his life. He's 4 now and when he does watch tv it is only educational and we interact while watching it. PBS..dinosaur train, little Einsteins, octonauts, super wings, etc. We talk about what we are watching and whatever questions he or I have about it or if we want to know more we go to the library and check books out on what we have seen. He can tell you the difference between a pachycephalosaurus and a stygimoloch. Which dinosaurs are herbivores carnivores or omnivores and what that means. He can identify some composers by the pieces we have heard. Identify a sperm whale, humpback, bullhead, and blue by pictures. We were watching Blue Planet 2 before bed the other night and he pointed out the giant siphonophore before it was announced. Superwings is teaching him about different cultures and yesterday he told me to ask him a question where he would say no lol i said "is mommy a turkeybutt?" He said "nein" 😂 I'm not trying to brag(tho I'll admit I'm proud as fuck of my son) but basically saying no tv is not all bad. It can be WONDERFUL. Visual learning is amazing. It is what you put on the tv, how long, and what you use it for. If your child is getting exercise every day, not vegging out in front of the tv, watching something educational, and you watch it TOGETHER and talk about it then I think it's great for them! And another note..don't let anybody make you feel bad about how you raise your family. As parents we are damned if we do damned if we don't in the eyes of everybody else. Do what YOU feel is best for your family. Love them. Teach them. Guide them. And you are golden ❤

I have a 17 month old daughter and we usually always have a TV on for background noise but she usually never really sits down and watches it. We've watched kids movies with her from time to time and we've taken her to a movie theater once for a kids movie. I'm not worried about her having a bit of TV time every now and then. She's a very bright little girl and has reached all of her milestones early.

Sometimes! We try moderation. They mostly enjoy doing other things so it's not a big deal for us. I see no harm in some TV.
