My mom staying with us after the birth?

Question

So, my parents live on the other side of the state (about 6 hour drive) and my mom asked if we’d like her to stay with us after the baby is born. Our house is small (1100 sq feet) and the only other bedroom will be the nursery. She would need to sleep on the couch downstairs (bedrooms are up) or we could try to squeeze a daybed into the nursery but it would be crowded and she’d be woken up whenever we went in there to change the baby etc because the baby will be sleeping in a bassinet in our room. I’d love the help... she also won’t have her car because it’ll be winter and she won’t be able to drive over the mountains so she’d kind of be stuck in our house. How would you deal with this situation?

I would not want anyone staying in my small house that early. But that’s me. You may be more comfortable with her seeing you deal with the stress of a newborn.

My mom lives 9 hours away and came and stayed with us when our son was born. We o my has one other room and our house was way smaller then 1100 sq ft. She slept in our nursery on an air mattress and out son slept in the pack and play i our room. You probably won’t be going in the nursery to change diapers at night.. I always just changed my son on my bed. Take the help you can get I’m sure she just wants to come help with the baby and could care less about being in the house all day.

Change in your bedroom, way faster and easier than to walk to a nursery etc. She should know there is a chance to be woken up by a crying baby, since she is there for helping you with the newborn. 
As for the car situation, can't drive over the mountain because it's closed for the winter, or because she doesn't have the correct tires for driving on snow/winter roads? Either get correct tires or a rental car might be a solution?

My mother came to stay with us when my first was born. We moved the changing table to the hallway to add a bed and give everyone a bit more privacy. This change turned out to be so convenient that the changing table never went back to the nursery.

With my first my mom came and stayed with me for a week. It was great and she was super helpful. This time around she will be staying for about 3 weeks to help me with my toddler and newborn while hubby works and she will go home on the weekends. I guess it depends on you’re preference. I took all the help I could get Bc it was such a drastic life change. I needed help.

If you do want her to come, I’d have her wait until baby’s been out a week or two, so you can get comfy with baby before you have another person in there all the time. Literally the day my daughter was born my mom, meaning well, seriously yelled at me that I wasn’t taking care of my daughter properly and I had to tell her to leave. When you JUST had a baby and you’re exhausted and overwhelmed, you’re not in the right frame of mind for any kind of meddling.

My mother n law stays 8 states away. I'm flying her in a week befor my daughter is born so she can help me when its time.  I stay in a 2 bed room apartment but as long as she dont mind I dont see an issue with it
