Is it normal to feel annoyed or jealous?

Question

I get annoyed or jealous sometimes when people talk to me about their preemie's who were born at 36 to 37 weeks. I know it's also not a great situation for them and also quite stressful but to me that seems like a good deal compared to having a child born at 29 weeks and having numerous health issues from it. My nicu neighbor's baby was born at 37 weeks and I can't help but feel jealous

I feel ya. I was so jealous of all the older nicu babies and term babies. I stayed in the birth group on here that was due date was and I was so jealous seeing all the other babies being born term and people still pregnant. Happy for them but jealous. It also annoyed me when others complained about being pregnant still and wanting baby out... I’d do anything to have mine been term and be super uncomfortable for as long as needed to have mine been term.

I get that, but there's always someone worse off I guess. I had a 24 weeker and boy what I would give to even have a 29 weeker. Maybe we'd feel happier if we looked at those who are worse off than those who are better off :)

I get where your coming from. My baby was one of those 36 week ones but due to health issues and not breathing when being born he was placed in the highest level nicu with all the supports like oxygen and cpap like a 29 week baby. Those babies were way smaller than him and i was thankful that we made it to 36 weeks and he was 5lbs. We still had to deal with so much with him like genetics consultations and brain and abdominal ultrasounds. When I have a friend talk to me about her 36 week baby who she also calls a preemie I am jealous cause she had no nicu stay and didn’t have to deal with all that went along with it. We both have 36 weekers but totally different stories.

I totally understand. I would feel jealous seeing babies come in days or even weeks after my daughter, and move up and out before her. But just know that your sweet little baby is getting strong at their own pace. All you can do is be there to support them. In the near future, even if it doesn’t feel like it, your baby will be home, and the NICU will be a far distant memory

Yes but then I’m sure the 20 weekers look at my 32 weeker and think similar things. I really struggled seeing pregnant ladies 32 weeks onward for a decent amount of time - which is crazy as I’m now pregnant again. My goal is 36 weeks but I would settle for every day over 32 we get! 
There’s still legitimate concerns with late preterms (34-36 weeks) but the prognosis and length of nicu stay is much better.

It is normal to feel jealous. My baby was born at 34 weeks and I was jeoulous to those whose baby was born at full term. But now I am happy seeing my baby active and breastfeeding properly as she per her adjusted age. Don't worry, ever babies journey is different. Your baby surely be having some qualities which no one else would have. After two years no one can even notice that they were born preemie.

My baby was born at around 36 weeks, but I'm jealous of those who are able to breastfeed. My baby has latching problems and I try to pump but don't get a good supply each time.

I think it is normal to feel like that. I felt that way and still do sometimes. My little guy was born at 27 weeks and has a lot of medical issues. I felt like he was the only baby in the NICU that was that early. My little man turns one next week but still has a tough road ahead. But he is a fighter ❤️💜💚

Aw I'm so sorry. I have twin neices that were born 2 weeks ago at 27 weeks :( one wasn't growing properly they were sharing a placenta. They were born 2 lbs 6 oz., and 1 lbs 3 oz. I feel so bad for the little one. The bigger of the two is off  the cpap still obviously way too premature but is doing well. Little babe is having a hard time has an infection, had to be put back on the breathing tube. She did get back up to her birth weight but now with the infection had to stop feeding her as much so will probably go back down :(

My twins were born at 30+6 weeks and I was always jealous when babies were born around the same week and ended up going home sooner from the NICU. I hear so many stories where 30 weekers were in the NICU for 50 days or less and mine where in the NICU for 91 & 93 days.My boys had so many complications in the beginning and the only thing that was keeping them from coming home was not eating their bottles. It was so frustrating. they are now 17 months and are eating machines 😂
